I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Botany and Master’s degree in Environmental Science from University of Calcutta, India. My doctoral degree in Biological Sciences was awarded by Bowling Green State University, Ohio. As part of my dissertation research advised by Dr. Robert Huber, I studied drug reward in an invertebrate model system through the establishment of operant self-administration paradigm. Under this paradigm, crayfish were trained to self-administer amphetamine, the first known demonstration of operant conditioning in an invertebrate system using injected drug reward. As a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Wenlin Sun at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, I studied the compulsive aspects of cocaine addiction and gender-specific differences in reward-seeking as a function of motivation and punishment systems.

My research interests include understanding the neurobiological basis of addiction and environmental and genetic factors that underlie the diverse trajectories of drug use. In Dr. Gilpin’s lab, my current studies are aimed to be highly translational. I am exploring the development of hyperalgesia in alcohol-dependent rats and its potential prevention by innovative therapeutic agents designed to combat pain.

In my free time, I enjoy camping, reading, and painting on post-it notes.
